Conference Reflection

During the conference, I received advice that helped me assure that I was on the right path with where I headed with my paper. Everyone was very helpful in guiding me to make sure I was making the right choices. I was asked specific questions of why I chose a specific topic to help expand my thinking about what I was going to write about and how in detail I could go with it. We specifically spent time on why I chose to focus on the benefit of theatre in elementary school kids. The questions my peers asked had to deal with the lack of theatre teachers there are in elementary schools, which sparked new interest to me of why that is.
It was very helpful to me to know that I was on the right track with this paper. At first, I was confused about the assignment itself, and was not sure if I was getting the right idea with my topic. It was also helpful to know that I could narrow down my topic even further than I had previously. Megan had stated that the purpose of the conference was to help each other narrow our topics down. I chose to do elementary school children because that is what I have seen the most research on so far. Megan also helped me to choose better words to use as I search for articles as resources. This was very beneficial to me because I do not think I would have thought of that on my own. My peers challenged me to make sure I was making the right decision, and that was very helpful.
I do not believe that anything said to me at the conference was least helpful. I would not be where I am with my ideas right now if it was not for what they said and their opinions. All of the advice I received will be taken into consideration as I start to do more research and focus on my paper. I appreciate the opportunity to hear feedback from classmates because sometimes I really do just get confused.
I believe at this point, all of my questions were answered at today's conference. I got a lot of things cleared up about the assignment and I think I understand it much better than I did when I walked into the conference. I am sure that as I start to do more research I will come up with more questions but as far as the conference goes, I am set.
As far as revision, I will definitely start to narrow my research down, and work on getting enough information for my paper. I will also work to not include my opinion into my paper until the end. I will use those specific key words to search for the benefits of theatre education in school. I think through this I will gain much more information than I previously thought I would, and I will begin to get a good base to start my paper on. I use my research to make an outline of exactly what I want to address in every part of my paper, so I do not get off track. I believe I am much more prepared after my conference and am no longer confused about how to approach this assignment.

  1. My opinion of why there is a lack of theatre teachers in schools is because of how undervalued theatre is. School administrators don't think that theatre is important to the education of a child, so they don't have many theatre classes. If they don't have many theatre classes, then they don't need many teachers. It will be interesting to see, through your research if there are other reasons for the lack of theatre teachers. I think that this assignment was confusing for a lot of people because it was new to us. Most of us have never done an assignment like this before.
